iPhone – international calls

Awesome! the new iPhone……..

iPhone, which uses a SIM card, is technically capable of working on any GSM network in the world, but AT&T and Apple have an agreement that it must be locked to the AT&T network.  AT&T just tucked Cingular into its empire and so  having a Cingular contract and trouble with the battery or some other part of a relatively new Cingular-acquired phone, it was possible to switch to a new iPhone.

Hopefully, this will mean having a phone that will work in London and Rome and Frankfort, and wherever one roams.

Apparently,  if you make a lot of international calls, there is a new service – Jajah – that costs only 3 cents a minute with no surcharge.

(AT&T mobile service – which used to be Cingular – currently charges $4 a month to make international calls. Then, if you want to call Rome or Dublin, you have to pay 23 cents a minute.

Steps to get Jajah service:

  1. Sign up for free at JAJAH.com (one more login ID and password, but may be worth it.)
  2. Browse to mobile.jajah.com with your iPhone.
  3. Enter your friend’s phone number and click “CALL”.
  4. Make unlimited international calls for 3¢ per minute
